Turn of the century, early 1900's Grecian figure cameo is carved from white stone and over-dyed deep blue. The subject is leaning against a pedestal holding a hand mirror. Gilded frame with three drops of crystal beads and genuine pearls. The largest bottom pearl has been dinged and the pearl nacre is crushed on the back. New owner may wish to have this pearl replaced but it can be worn without it showing as is. The cameo body itself measures 1 5/8 inches long. From the bale to the end of the longest drop measures 3 7/8 inches. 18 inch gold filled chain has been paired with this cameo for many years. Price reflects one damaged genuine pearl. Hand-painted portrait pin is set in gold filled enamel frame of navy blue and white. The lkady figure appears to be painted on metal and she has been coated or shellacked to protect the painting. This is probably original to the piece and the coating shows some age but nothing untoward. Another view. The enamel is deep and perfect. Measures just over an inch wide. Someone has tested it for gold content and left a mark on the back or it may have had the clasp added later but if so, an old alteration. Pin back is soldered on. View the back. Order "9C-148portrait," $88.00. To ORDER, scroll to the bottom of the page or click here. |

Gorgeous strand of crystal beads is very old and strung on fine chain. Another close view. The color is a pale blush pink, like the inside of a shell, peachy pink. Just lovely! 17 inches long. View full length. I see one missing smaller bead a the end of the strand. We didn't notice it until we looked at the photo so it doesn't at all detract. Sterling with gold vermeil bar pin dates from 1880 to the turn of the century. Lace filigree border with fanciful design is set with painted glass stones. (Before rhinestones came in colors, clever Victorian jewelry makers painted them to resemble rubies, emeralds, etc.) Most of the hand cut stones are dark but I wouldn't change a thing on this lovely old pin! Measures 1 13/16 inches long and stamped, "Sterling" on the reverse. Order "9C-353vbar," $45.00. To ORDER, scroll to the bottom of the page or click here. |
