Long genuine jet necklace from the Victorian era is 48 inches long and has usually shaped jet lozenges that are double strung with small shiny black beads. The small beads may be glass since it would be rare to find such small beads in carved jet however, while they may or may not be jet, (we just cannot tell) they are certainly hand made. The lozenges are 8 - 9mm and show the typical conchoidal nips and irregularities of jet. There are a couple of issues with the stringing; a large knot where the necklace was tied together, and while it appears secure, you can see a repair to the black cord. This lovely old piece of history is priced accordingly. Order "9A-064jet," $68.00. Learn more about jet at John Felton's informative site. To ORDER, scroll to the bottom of the page or click here. |
