Vintage Enamel Rose Jewelry and Hearts

Enamel and Guilloche' roses were popular throughout the 20th century and before. Many of these pieces are from the 1940's - 1950's.
Pastel hand painted enamel was applied over smooth or machine engraved decorative metal. The translucent enamel is accented by the metal design underneath which adds dimension and interest.
Coro and Elgin, ESPO and Vargas were companies
which produced a lot of these designs.

Rectangular ring of guilloche' painted rose on white has a twisted rope design boarder View from the side. While the top and face is in great condition, there is a lot of wear to the shank of this ring and it is slightly out of round. Adjustable gold tone oval ring has a twisted rope border and a pretty, dark pink, almost wine colored rose. Another view here. A little aging on the guilloche plate appears far worse in photos than in person. Still pretty and wearable but price reflects. 12K gold filled charm bracelet with oval guilloche locket charm. We don't believe the charm is gold filled since it is not marked. Bracelet is marked and measures 7 1/4 inches long. Heavy, 5/8th inch wide, 12k gold filled marked bracelet has a darling guilloche' perfume bottle (bottle not gold filled) suspended from a double set of jump rings. Enamel Rose Pins, Clips, Lockets

Darling petite guilloche' pin has a pink rose on white background and is surrounded in sparkling clear rhinestones. Measures just under one inch wide and top is slightly domed. View the back. Order "ER-105petite" $29.00.

Large guilloche' locket pin has a lacy golden border and a pretty fleur de lis pin. It will hold two large photos by pressing them inside, no frames are required. View inside. The locket is quite large, measuring 1.5 inches in diameter and hanging a total of about 2.75 inches long with the pin. The back has a pattern and this pretty piece from the 50's or 60's looks like it has never been worn. There is a tiny spot near 10:00 where the enamel didn't quite meet the edge but this does not detract. Please note that this is not a small piece, view size comparison here,. Very nice! Sterling locket with hand painted rose plate dates to the end of ww2 and still have the original photos of a believed service man. View locket open. Photos may be removed or exchanged. View the back and front of the outside. There is a small spot at about 11:00 on the back that does not seem to polish out. There is also a small manufacturing flow on the bottom of the guilloche' and enamel plate. Neither seriously detracts. Marked inside. Order "LKEN-#368sterlingrose," $52.00.

Pastel yellow bow pin with guilloche' enamel and painted rose still has the original insert in the back. Just adorable with the exception of a little nick in the enamel center of the bow and while the price reflects this flaw, it doesn't seriously detract when worn. Another view here. Sweetest ever petite floral guilloche' pin with hand painted pink and blue flowers measures just under one inch long but sparkles like mad! Background is the most lovely shade of pale yellow and the pin is surrounded with crystal clear rhinestones. View the back. Order "ER-506flora," $29.00.

Gorgeous and substantial sterling guilloche' pin is quite old and probably European with it's beautiful attention to detail. Measures 1 3/8 inches wide. Another view here. Has elongated pin stem and excellent "C" clasp which leads us to believe it is probably Scandinavian in origin. Marked 925 and either SK or K5. View the back. Probably dates to the 1920's. Watch crystal that used to cover the back is missing. Your jeweler can install one over your memento (lock of hair, good luck charm or even a photo) or you can wear this as is by simply pressing in a photo and covering with a piee of plastic. This beautiful heart pin from the 1940's is decorated with curlicues of tiny faux seed pearls and faux turquoise beads. The center is a slightly domed guilloche' heart with a red rose and a blue "forget-me-not" flower, all hand painted. Edwardian period hand-painted roses sash buckle of gilded metal has had the pin stem replaced long ago. The painting is beautiful and the design, elegant. Another view here. View the back. Guilloche rose pin set in a band of black enamel may be set in sterling but is unmarked. Previous owner told me this pin dates from the 1920's but it may date as late as WW2. Hand painted, guilloche' oval pin from the 1960's is very pretty but has a tiny manufacturing flaw. Note the speck underneath the protective coat of clear lacquer at 10 o'clock. A favorite piece of mine, this Victorian Revival pin has a secret (!!) and probably dates to the 1930's. It has black enamel in the etched designs and has nice depth. See a different view here. The secret is that you twist the top and the pin opens to hold photographs of your dear ones! One side is missing the frame ring, the other side still has the frame, celluloid cover and contains an old photo. No one will guess that it conceals a photo or two. What a clever design! Sweet Coro rose pin with ruffled filigree edge is a nice addition to your collection. Scatter pins like this one came on cards and were popular with teens in the 1950's. Pins like this were often signed only on the display cards. Measures about 1 1/4 inches in diameter. Hand-painted guilloche' enamel. Unsigned but definitely a Coro creation. Probably a Coro design, this pin from the 1950's has a lovely hand painted guilloche rose with a scalloped border. Measures 1 1/8 inches in diameter and in perfect condition. Order "ER-604rosey," $25.00.

Hand painted and signed by the artist, this pretty pink roses pin is set into a bamboo like setting. I believe the signature is P Kelly. The porcelain tile on which the roses are painted is somewhat sloppily glued into the frame but this can only be seen from the reverse side. The front is lovely. View the back here. I am not sure if this hand painted Russian folk pin is papier mache or a light wood but the floral paintings on rich black enamel are wonderful! Enamel cross necklace contains 4 Catholic metals including Jesus, Mary, St. Christopher and View closer here. Marked sterling, the cross either was coated with clear enamel or Rhodium and it has worn off here and there on the back and inside. This cannot be seen when worn. Cross slides open to reveal Mary in the center. Turn it over and there are three more blue enamel medals concealed. Enamel Rose Earrings

Round black earrings surrounded with clear rhinestones hold a center guilloche' plate with a pink enamel rose. Petitie and oh, so Fifties, these little beauties each measure about 9/16th inch or about 15mm. Screw backs are very comfortable. You won't even know you have them on! Order "ER-118blkear," $28.00.

Guilloche' perfume bottle from the 1950's is about 2 inches tall including the cap. Metal bottle is in very nice condition but the lid has a few spots from perfume leakage. Well made, porcelain pill box is heavy and has a strong hinge making it safe to carry in your purse for medications. Transfer painting on top depicts what we believe is a blue large morning glory and several smaller orange and yellow flowers. View the pretty bouquet from the top. Measures 1 7/8 inches long. Nice! Signed "Evans" guilloche' rose compact measures 2 1/2 inches square. Intricate engine turned casing with pretty hand painted enameling. There is one very tiny rough spot on the edge of the white enamel that isn't even visible in the photos but it can be seen upon close inspection. The mirror has a crack in the bottom left corner. I have marked the photo with a red arrow. The doeskin powder holder is intact but there is no puff. View the compact open with powder compartment. We don't believe this guilloche enamel trapezoid shaped pillbox has ever been used. The inside white enamel lining is pristine. View the pillbox open. From the late 1940's, this black enamel compact has a palest green guilloche' enamel center with hand painted rose. Another view. Made of brass, there is normal wear for a purse item if this age both inside and outside. Mirror is a little foggy and puff is missing. View compact open.
